Barça closes a powerful sponsorship agreement

As MD announced, HMD is the new official phone of the Barça team
After the contract with Oppo ended in 2022, the Catalan club will have a new Global Smartphone Partner in a multi-year contract

New source of income for Barça. As Mundo Deportivo reported, FC Barcelona and HMD have reached an agreement for the Finnish company to be the new sponsor of the Blaugrana club. Human Mobile Devices marketed mobile devices under the Nokia brand and they will be the new smartphones for the Barça team starting this coming season. Founded in 2016, it is present in more than 200 different countries and sold 400 million units in 2023.

Once the agreement between Barça and Oppo ends in June 2022, after seven years of partnership, the Catalan team will have a new official phone brand. The phone manufacturers Nokia will be the new sponsors of the men’s and women’s football teams, as well as the sections of the rest of professional sports.

This collaboration is a gamble by HMD after it started releasing phones this past June. The Finnish company released its own smartphones under the Nokia brand, but last July, the brand founded by Jean-Francois Baril launched the HMD Skyline, taking a step forward in the sector.

The agreement between Human Mobile Devices (HMD) and FC Barcelona is multi-year and includes the rights of association of the men’s and women’s football teams, as well as the sections of the rest of professional sports. Among other benefits, it includes access for athletes to produce graphic and audiovisual content, as well as exposure of the brand on match days and on digital platforms.

Statement by Juli Guiu, Vice President of Marketing at FC Barcelona:
“Reimagining the future and working for the next generation of fans and players is part of what defines FC Barcelona’s culture, so partnering with a company that embraces this vision like HMD is a natural step for us. Furthermore, as sustainability is one of the main pillars of the Club’s strategic plan, we are looking forward to starting to create synergies between two organisations that believe in putting the care of future generations at the heart of their activity.”
